From Here It Is Far Poem by Francis Duggan

From Here It Is Far

From here it is far to the northern shore
And even further from the road to Rathmore
The old road from memory that winds up and down
On towards Ballydaly out of Millstreet Town.

The old Finnow bridge by the Millstreet Town hill
And the little bridge over the clear Glasheen rill
Through my decades of absence in my memory remain
The past i re-visit again and again.

From here it is far very far it does seem
From the old bridge i knew o'er the Claraghatlea stream
From where often i heard the dipper in song
A voice in my memory that does belong.

From here to the Shannaknuck cross it seems far
A journey that one could not make by motor car
The memories go with us to where-ever we go
To of the landscapes and landmarks that we used to know.

From here it is far from the home of grey crow
To those flat rushy fields where Finnow waters flow
On towards the Blackwater all night and all day
On it's journey to Youghal it's babbles it's way.
