Freedom And Cages Poem by Chukwuebuka Adebayo

Freedom And Cages

Their blows hit my head,
Their lashes reach that child
Never stop beating her mother?
She want the child to be free
Her locks rottening on her legs
She think she had won suffering
Cleaned it out from book of history
Think she has got her freedom
And cages are only for animals
But still she sees evils lingering,
...Slavery must be a good business
The exchange of nairas for dollars
Like as selling a shrine for a note.
The touching of dead vampire again
If they know.......Like little do theys
Soon they must burn up the world
Rob out all of its silvers and golds
They will set it on bombs and fire.
And the time coming, soon it comes
Like they've forgotten, how far I sailed
The ships travelled and how many fell
These men I raised with my breasts
Now sinks theirs claws into my body
My blood dripping, drop after drop
Don't you know the feelings of freedom?
Do you need to be warned again,
About the very evil of bondage?
Don't you remember, the days
When nobody knows our name? .
