Freedom. Poem by Driss Ezzireg

Freedom.

Awake, you birds of heaven,
Angels of timeless time, awake!
The wheels of oppression are crushing
Your harmless nests. Awake and shake
The drowsiness that wraps your eternal present.
Awake and seek glory with stones
That stir the hollowness
Of their souls.
Stand erect and act with firmness of will
And speak the truth of your ember desire full,
Tell of the littleness of stealing children's dreams
Children who cling to their stone roots.
Tell of boots that resort to terror
Only to reap the horror
Of resentfulness.
Die if you will.
Death‘s chamber is holier
And more charitable.
Fight the Unstable.
The Vampires that feed
On your saintly blood;
That breed hatred,
That disseminate hatred
Among their young.
Awake and break the chains
That deny you the right
To fight for
Freedom.
