Free But Caged Poem by Lanre Samuel

Free But Caged

Once wild and free, now caged and contained
The teenage spirit struggles to be sustained
Caught in the web of modern civilization
Youthful vitality faces a stifling situation.

Gone are the days of playful exploration
As teens become slaves to technology's domination
Trapped in screens and virtual worlds of addiction
The essence of their being falls to affliction.

Forced to conform to societal norms
Their creativity and uniqueness takes a hit, deformed
Education becomes a factory of standardization
Individuality crushed under the weight of indoctrination.

The pressures of success weigh heavy on their shoulders
As they strive to fit into pre-defined molds, getting bolder
The incessant pursuit of perfection, a never-ending grind
Leaves little room for self-discovery and peace of mind.

In the midst of all this, the teenage soul cries
Yearning for freedom and a life with fewer lies
A life where self-expression is celebrated and revered
A life where true potential is unleashed and cleared.

Let us not forget the cost of modern civilization
As we raise the next generation with great anticipation
May we nurture their spirits, encourage their passions to bloom
And give them the space to explore, creating room.
