Forgive Them Poem by Kenneth Maswabi

Forgive Them

It's a terrible state of affairs
Police brutality on the streets
Caught on camera
It's a sin
To put on your black face
And walk the streets of America
Police are everywhere
Ready to shoot
The silhouette or the man
They don't care much
As long as it's black
It lies condemned
Black Lives Matter
Nothing matters
As long as the law allows
The police will continue to slaughter
Innocent African children
There is blood on the streets
Many names have been announced
Many young men and women
Died on the spot
No tears on their face
Only police brutality
Carved on their shield
It is not taboo
To spill a man's blood
As long as he is black
It doesn't matter
Whether young or old
Women or children
The verdict is the same
Kill them all
It's not for the weak
To witness the reckless brutality
It's written
In their manuals of operation
A black man is the most dangerous entity
Do not hesitate
Shoot to kill
Ask questions later
Dear God
Please forgive them
They do not know what they're doing
They are blinded by hatred
The smog of racism
Flows in their blood
Forgive them Lord
They are lost
