For You Poem by Scott Stevenson

For You

Rating: 2.0

to kiss your feet,
lay out everything... it was life for me
it was a dream that kept on living
chains were bound (i was immune to their weight)
you really did draw me in

scapegoat, henchman, devoted employee...
i never gave up
it was an awkward acceptance,
your hollow gift gratefully embraced
my every friend shut out
every moment spent on your happiness,
for your approval

a rushing around
fixes made for your ultimate comfort
it was beautiful in its time:
your cold generosity
my exertion with thoughts of nothing
in return
my infatuation,
loyalty,
whole-hearted homage paid,
supreme sacrifice made
and nothing ever in return

a host of delusions labored under for you
lovers left for you
wills bequeathing to you
ways changed in your honor
all attention paid
for your congratulations
