For All Eternity My Beloved Poem by Chikere Zakka

For All Eternity My Beloved

You said you were just gonna walk just down the street
To get some food to eat
When you left I saw your wallet on the coffee table
I took it and ran out the door after you when I heard a scream
Followed by a shot and the sound of running feet fading away
And slowly walked to the spot where your body lay
You look pale as a ghost and cold as a glacier and still as a stone
Across your face lay a tear
Oh if only I could have known!
I fall to my knees and cannot move
For I am filled with sorrow and so much gloom
I could have been there but you said no
If only I was there before you meet your doom
I could feel the pain of lost, even this soon
But it seem so unreal at the same time
And you were mine
I see your body marked and red
But even as I can barley move
I lean and kiss you upon you icy forehead
If only I could have been with you
You wouldn’t have died this way
As I lay for hours and hours beside you holding you in my arms
A man comes up and say, “What happened? ”
I say in a quiet voice, “He took my beloved away.”
They had to pry my binding arms from your body
I will not forget till this day
That I prayed day and night that I could see your smile
In that beautiful heaven one day
