Footprints in the sand
Don’t know where they’re headed
Don’t know where they’ve been
Just know I’m following the footprints in the sand
Kicking off my sandals
To do this barefoot
Don’t know who’s they are
But I’m following
Put my trust, put my faith
In putting one foot in front of the other
Following your steps
Steps in the sand
They keep going as far as I can see
Down and down and farther and farther
Alongside the beach
Following your footprints in the sand
But then comes a wave
Bigger than the rest
Washing up to me
Away the footprints
I stand not knowing what to do
No more footprints to follow
No one to walk before me
No path to stride along
I take a step and then another
I’ll make my own prints
I’ll make my own life
New prints for others to follow
But sooner or later
They’ll be forced to stray from the path
And make their own way in life
The foot prints in the sand won’t last forever
You’ll have to make your own.
