Flowers Poem by Dean Meredith

Flowers

Rating: 5.0

Today I looked for flowers
I had roses in mind
But all I found were poppies
My first thought was death
And then remembrance
But next came courage
And self sacrifice
And the eternal flame
And love and peace
I wanted to give you a flower
I wanted to give you a bunch
I wanted to fill your car
I wanted to fill your life
With flowers and colour and beauty
Then I realised that
God has already done it
And I’m no God
I’m hardly even a man
And you are lovelier than any garden
And I unworthy to weed around you
And yet my acid rain
Cannot damage your innocent petals
They seem to thrive on it
As though you were made
For nuclear winter
As though my mushroom cloud
Was just a necessary part
Of your nurturing nature
I found my fragrant flower
Beauty blessed and heaven’s scent
