Far Be That Day Poem by George Ahaneku

Far Be That Day

Let the day not come
When I’ll have to weep
When it’s a loved one’s turn
To fall into deep sleep
Let the Sun not rise
Upon that weary day
When scarlet is the shade
Of everyone's eyes

Let the light not shine
Upon the deep blue sea
Let the cellar lose wine
Break shackles set prisoners free
Let chaos and rumble
Not once be heard
Make the proud one humble
To kneel and bow his head

Let my breath not cease
While I am yet young
Once there’s peace and increase
Nothing will go wrong

Let a tear not drop
No matter the cost
From bottom to top
For hope is not lost
Let me be happy and gay
And have no need to bother
For as the Sun rises each day
I’ll see my father and mother

Let our healing be quick
And our strength increase
Let our miracle yet stick
Purge and remit our disease
Let there be no reason
To shudder and cry
Through rainy and dry season
Let true love abide

Let our air not cease
While we yet live
For where there’s love there’s ease
And there will be ought to give

Let my heart feel no pain
Just live on healthy and strong
My thoughts altogether sane
I’ll remain forever young
Let the day not come
When I’ll have to weep
When it’s mine or a sibling’s turn
To fall asleep

Let the sun not rise
Let the light not shine
Oh! That weary day
Let the cellars lose wine.
