Fair Trade Worker Poem by Sian Mein

Fair Trade Worker

I am a fair-trade worker
But this wasn't always true.
I used to be bossed around
And had to be told what to do.

I used to work hard all day,
With little or no reward.
I am in the production of beans,
So good, they deserved an award.

But one day when I was working,
A van drove up and a man got out.
He started to walk over to me,
And my employer began to shout.
So that's how I got my new chance
My hope of a good life is real.
Now I get paid fairly
And I can afford full meals.

So if you enjoy your food,
Do one good thing to help others,
Tell everyone to buy fair-trade
To help our sisters and brothers.

Bananas, tea and chocolate,
Choose the ‘Fair-Trade' logo,
And pass the message of this good deed
Tell everyone around, that you know.
