Fados Poem by Alejandro Torres

Fados

I listen to Fados
All night
The words aren’t too hard
But I’m Spanish
And only pick out a few
Cause Fado’s are sad songs
In Portuguese

And this song she’s singing
Is for you
Cause she’s talking about your people
And of guitars and singing
Of something loss
And tears
Of sadness she swallows or brings
To make her song less heart wrenching

But the melodies haunting
Double strings
High and bass
And just her voice
Crying out her language
Not too different from the gypsies
In mine
Makes it all the harder
No to love the sadness

So I’ve been playing them all night
Cause some have an upper beat
Even if I’m not too sure
What kind of song she could sing
About white roses
But it sounds good
Between my second cup of coffee
And toast
I don’t mind
Your vice

And it’s a bit more touching
When he starts to sing
About differences
And I can relate
The indifferences

I smile a little
And say your name
Cause he just said
Sozinho
And I know that today
I miss you

And the sun breaks free
So I switch countries
And change it to Brazilian
Cause Bossa Nova
Is still Portuguese
And this song Alcione sings
Makes me think back to last winter
When I told you
E você que eu amo

Meu coração vai sempre ser teu
It’s been try since then
É sempre
