Endless Nights Poem by Spencer RossEvans

Endless Nights

Endless nights I have spent
Stuck staring at the ceiling
A scene only seen
By the desperate

An escape
Is all I really want
A clean slate
Is all I really need

Carry me away
Show me the stars
Sing me the lullaby
That wakes the sun

As my eyes grow heavy
My mind goes wild
Thoughts of the day to come
Stop me from dreaming

Of all I was
Of all I want
Of all the things I need
Of all the things just out of reach

As the moon grows dim
The security that was my room
Has become nothing more
Than a field of mind-wandering

Overthink
Overanalyze
Overexert
Overexhaust

I remain still
But I still
Can't stop the thoughts
That stop my slumber

I think it's time
Time to drift away
Away from these
Endless nights
