Empty Poem by Sara Jo Andrews

Empty

I see you standing there,
That wounded look in your eyes,
Wondering what went wrong,
Why it wasn’t meant to be,
I put a hole in your heart,
But when I did, I left a piece of mine there,
Hoping that one day, it will grow, maybe it will ease in time.
But I will always carry that bit of you,
Reminding me of the pain I caused.
I wanted to turn and tell you I didn’t mean it,
That I was only joking,
But you know that will never be.
Afraid to mean something, to this world, to you,
I turn away, walking back into the darkness from which I came.
