Emergency Poem by Prem Nizar Hameed

Emergency

"Eyes saw some horrible things"
Murmured the tongue, in 1975
Ears heard that with a shock
Responsive mind then inspired the hand to
Get a pen and paper to write:
"Emergency has no place in democracy"
Night patrol as a nightmare knocked at door
Case against the eyes, the tongue and the ears booked
Years after, the liberty of speech survives like a phoenix

(An Acrostic Poem: First letter of each line spells out EMERGENCY)
