Embers Poem by tele seal

Embers

She lies to herself daily. tells herself things will get better.
This is the way life's supposed to be. a life with no connection.
A love with no possibilities, no passion.
The once burning flame now beginning to smolder from fighting itself, searching for herself without seeing what is staring back at her in the mirror.
a stranger to herself like an old lover whom she once knew so well but now seems like some alien being.
damned because she did.
damned because she followed the path most travelled.
the straight and narrow road paved well by those searching souls who wandered it before her searching for 'the Dream'.
the path lined with white picket fences and the facades of beautiful homes with no pictures on their walls.
The distractions don't satisfy, they only allow her to squeak out a small reminder of what she truly longs for in her soul of souls.
The small red ember sits quietly pulsing red. Fighting for each breath. Still burning, barely warm but fading.
I wonder will she find a way to kindle the fire?
A log to stoke the flame? A bellows to blow her lifes breath?
how long will the ember stay fighting?
