'Ed' Ucate Yourself Poem by Billy Thompson

'Ed' Ucate Yourself

Rating: 5.0

Dedicated To The Fallen.

Drag your tail up, and out of bed
Face the perils of this world full steam ahead
Don't let yesterday's news headlines fill you with dread
One thing's for sure, you best be sked (scared)
The road is paved with the fallen and dead
So watch carefully as you tread
Be not mislead by what others have said
That if you work hard, long, and diligent, you will be fed
There are many, I mind you, that have copped out, and plead
Took the first train smoking, and fled
Only to find themselves in the lines later, begging for bread
With sunken eyes, and feeble legs
They fall in droves needing meds
That are too expensive for the average talking head
With loads of money to spend but colored in red
To this hell of a faith we all soon wed
As we lie back down in our restless bed

Yes I agree with Scarborough this would make a good stage performance. Having said that, you paint a rather harsh picture of the uneducated, unfortunately it is also a picture of truth. We can view these people on any given day walking through the downtown streets or the ghetto parts of town. They are there in full view, begging, some too embarrassed to beg. All it takes is education, no procrastination and lots of dedication. A very basic formula, I believe. Wonderful, wonderful poem. Thankyou---Melvina---

This is a poem that pulls the scaryness of our life (your life) into a warning of others.. DUH! .. I really like it, it has a 'rocky' feeling. Can't wait to read more of your work. Aeraliece Corby
