Ebony’s Back - Part Ii Poem by Cheryl McDonnell

Ebony’s Back - Part Ii

And so she too lay down
Her breath ceased
The shrill cry
Of her last squeak

So the fur disintegrates
Back into the place it came
No more touch
Again I have lost you

Ebony’s dead
She’s gone my friend
No more hands
Across Ebony’s back

With little pain she passed
Leaving the chasm to be filled again
With no new fur
Irreplaceable was Ebony’s back

Did you return and die again
I don’t believe in that
A secret it was
Upon Ebony’s back

It’s time to close the book
Seek no more hope
I had you again
On Ebony’s back

Now our hours of life decrease
No more shadows
Upon her fur
Now she sleeps

Time stops still now
Lets walk away
Remember but not mourn now
What was Ebony’s back.
