Down Memory Lanes Poem by John Sensele

Down Memory Lanes

Over the years we came through
Negotiating a patchy path where a clue
Beckoned a new start
Heeding advice to grow smart

Growing wiser day after day
Keen eyes, keen ears everyday
Gathered snippets for pets
That prevented puppets

From ensnaring minds primed to forge
Ahead from tender youth to the verge
Of maturity and security
We longed, emerging from obscurity

To the dawn of an era teeming with bliss
We sampled in humble gratitude for a new lease
Life granted to you and I
Along the way we never asked why

In our early twenties we tied the knot
Daring challenges that from day nought
Threatened our ship to capsize
Eagerness of youth cut to size

As several bulls we seized by their horns
Building our nest brick by brick despite being greenhorns
Who God by his grace elected to bless
In the face of a world so faithless

We had to tread with care
Putting our best foot forward to scare
Spooks andhooks at the ready
To bake, quake and shake our ship unsteady

But God's plans stood firm
Thwarting many a squirm
From digressing the delight
God on us poured with much limpid light.
