Domestic Life [from 'proverbs 400' In Tamil] Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Domestic Life [from 'proverbs 400' In Tamil]

327. O, fair maid! No blush in your face will make no
feminine character. Without tasty meals
under care, you couldn't be alive. No plan is
carried out without hand-cash. No seeds, no grains!

328. You help him who stayed with you in pain
but he satisfies not, wants more and more.
It is like one digging deep in the hole,
wants to see the snake! All sorts of men are here.

329. No one asks the smartly dressed if he needs food
though he has no shelter to sleep. Though want
hurts deep at home and looming
keep beautiful your outward appearance.

330. A lucky husband has a wife who knows
from facial signs of the guests and treat them well
as he liked. One with guarded wealth is the man
drawing water from th' sea by a picottah.

331. O damsel with eyes of a deer! A father
should stand his sons in goodstead.
The doll you make is your god. To set one
in moral ways is to get the saintly state.

332. While gambling with peers, your neighbour gives signs
to play the game depending on another.
Among all the humans thought of as great
the wise have special love to their mothers.

333. O, bard! When the chief puts the chest of the whore
wearing rings on her shoulders, on his chest,
you struggle to rail at him for bad conduct.
It is hard to wake up one feigning sleep.

334. When the jewels wearing belle with timid looks
of the deer, gazes, it shields the man's shame.
Nappinnai charmed Thirumal at Thozhunai.
Let not the pure-minded enter alone the houses of friends

335. As the town to spread rumours has growing trends.
No one will vouch for your innocence. If the raging torrents swell
no dam can stop its revel.

336 However you tie up th' dog's tail to make it
straight, it will bend ‘gain. You can't guard the fair wench
wearing jewels from straying unless she reins
her mind herself. I swear no one can do it.
