Distant Twin Poem by DiAnne Douglass

Distant Twin

Can you feel me?
My twin
I know you are out there
Somewhere
I can feel you
Very faintly, but I still feel our connection

I must sound so silly to you
Born an only child, yet calling for my twin
But he's out there
I just know it
I can feel it

Twin sensations
Like when I suddenly begin to cry
Even though I'm not sad
Or that sharp stab of fear
When I'm completely safe
That stabbing pain in my chest
Like someone's pushing a dagger into my heart
But only on my right side

Yes, I can feel him
And I think he can feel me too
My twin, the one who was suppose to
Be born along side me
And who I was suppose to share my secrets with

I must sound crazy to you
But it really is true
I have a twin out there somewhere
Someone who shares half of my soul
Half of my pain, my sorrow
My joy, my laughter
Not a soul mate but a stronger, deeper connection
A different kind of love

Come find me, my twin
I've been waiting
All this time, waiting
For you to realize how close we are
That we share the same thoughts
And feelings
And sensations
Twin sensations
