Direction Poem by Jon M. Nelson

Direction

I've burned too many bridges,
To go back across the river.
I could try to swim back across,
But the coldness made me shiver.

I've stepped off the straight and narrow,
So many times that I have lost track.
Since then I had lost my way,
I wondered if I could ever get back.

My moral compass was broken,
It would lead me the wrong way.
I had no conscience to guide me,
So I would always be led astray.

I've broken so many hearts,
And been left picking up the pieces.
When I tried to make things right,
I kept falling through the creases.

But then I found a guiding light,
That brightened up my path.
I could see the error of my ways,
And what was left in the aftermath.

Whenever I feel misguided,
I can make that big correction.
Now I've turned my life around,
I'm heading in the right direction.
