Darkness Poem by Deb Fowler

Darkness

Rating: 2.4

I tried to hide the darkness
but it showed upon my skin

I tried to hide the sorrow
but it showed up in my tears

I tried to hide the history
of over 500 years
but I lived it again and again

I tried to hide my features
with makeup and powder
but they just stood out louder and louder

I tried to hide my body
covered it in cloth
but it didn't matter what money had bought

I tried to hide my sisters
but knowing eyes could see

I tried to stop the hatred
but that will never be.

What a difference it would make if everyone took off their mask and were honest with themselves!
