Daring Poem by Onareen Ferdinand

Daring

I see them coming
To collect me
Again;
Marching in unison
Ever closer
Humans, hypnotized
To follow.
I hate them
For never giving
A chance,
Some space
To be different.

I feel sick.
In my mouth
The taste of bile
Is maddening.

They march
Towards me
Hypnotic smiles
Blind to you
Unless you run
In the opposite direction-

I take two steps forward
Ten steps back
I must dare
I must rebel;
Because
Living under
Such eyes
Is more difficult to accept
Than defeat.

Doubting to try;
Daring to defy
