Dance Of The Fairies Poem by Kostas Lagos

Dance Of The Fairies

Rating: 5.0

Into the old woods

next to the river banks

Where water spews out

of ancient springs

Day or night, summer or winter

there you will see them

women of beauty undreamed

shimmering like the light of the moon

floating in the air as they dance

Beware fellow passenger

do not dance with them or

your mind will be forever lost

do not speak to them or

your tongue will die and wither

Hear my word wanderer and never forget

dance of the fairies is not to be disturbed

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
According to some traditions in rural Greece, if a traveller meets fairies dancing, he must avoid them for they will try to steal his mind or his voice. If a man manages to steal the scarf of a fairy then she has to marry him and can be set free only if she will get it back.
