Conversing Alone In Silence Poem by Ananta Madhavan

Conversing Alone In Silence

Silence is repose. Alone and waiting
For happenings, one may speak within
To one's own Mind, ‘O Manasa'!
One may remonstrate, repine or rue, bemoan.
‘It is not fair', the blame is elsewhere.

Words may be muted, jaded, faded
In the privacy of tranquil conversation.
It is both a soliloquy and a dialogue;
A threnody and paean of praise at once.

‘O Manasa' in Sanskrit and Telugu means, ‘O my Mind'. Some songs of Thyagaraja have this call to self-communion.
