Comfort Of Loneliness Poem by Jeremy Nel

Comfort Of Loneliness

I am at peace
In the stillness of my being
Ensconced in the walls of my home
In the darkness of my universe
In the cocoon of life
Quiet and alone.

Yet loneliness
I do not fear
As it quietly wraps me
In the comfort
Of its embrace
Holding me secure.

Why then do others
Fear this comfort
And flee to the noisiness
Of pubs and public places
Where then their loneliness
Is exacerbated?

Why do they not hear
The soothing voice
That wraps me tight
In its cocoon
Of silent music
Holding me dear.

Oh my soul beware
Of the siren song
Of public places
And the loneliness
Of being with so many others
Yet with none.

Be still in thine
Quiet holy shrine.
Where the stillness
And the peace
Transcends the noise
Those others crave.

When others fitfully run
And fear the disapproval
Of those whose approval they crave
Then mine heart be still
In peaceful harmony
Alone.
