Come Back My Love Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Come Back My Love

From dreadful thorns, I brought you out
I lay you in my bed
Through love you soon began to sprout
And show your lovely head

Such joy your beauty brought to me
I thought you were so fair
I cared for you, and longed to see
What fruit to me you’d bear?

Around your form, a wall I built
You grew and looked so well
But soon your love began to wilt
Till finally you fell

I set the dew, the sun to shine
You waxed so straight and tall
So strong you stood, so sleek and fine
What brought you then to fall?

For you, this love of mine is true
Why did you have to leave?
With all the love I gave to you
It made my heart to greave

The storms of life may take their toll
Yet you my love can live
Return to me, I’ll make you whole
And all I have, I’ll give

Once more in bed, I’ll lay you down
I’ll shower you with love
I’ll give to you a golden crown
When joining me above

I’m waiting now for you to show
I’ll give you love so sweet
Return to me my love and grow
Become my finest wheat
