Coats Poem by Jim O'Donnell

Coats

Your coat hangs up one last time
Hanging there right next to mine
The places they have been and seen
I so wish this day was a dream

The memories of those rainy days
Hoods pulled up we’re both tucked away
Underneath that shady tree
We both know now that you are free

Hanging there side by side
Just like we were all our lives
We cloak ourselves in our coats
To hide that lump deep in our throat

But now my coat is thrown free
I know your love is inside of me
My new coat it is shining bright
And you are with me day and night
