Christmas Eve: Sunset Poem by John Bannister Tabb

Christmas Eve: Sunset

Once more upon the western skies
The 'flaming sword' appears,
And Eve again from Paradise
Departs in twilight tears.

A backward look,-a memory
O'ershadowing afar
A promise,-of her progeny
The sole remaining star;

And dreams that waken in the gloom
The glory of a morn
When, mothered in a Maiden's womb,
The Son of God is born.
