Chicken Heart Poem by Juan Olivarez

Chicken Heart

I cannot tell you, I love you.
I lack the courage in my heart,
I know what I need to do,
But my knees get weak, right from the start.

I find no way I can express,
My longing for your ruby lips.
I see you and I feel distress,
From my head to my toes tips.

I mumble when you talk to me,
And make a fool out of myself.
My chicken heart won't let me be,
Just like a little boy of twelve.

There's no escaping and it ain't cool,
A yellow stripe runs down my back.
I'm just a chicken hearted fool,
Because of you, I'm a nervous wreck.
