Checkered Life Poem by Chester Maynes

Checkered Life

Sometimes black
Sometimes white
We hide in the darkness
We dance in the light

Our hearts like stones
Our heads shine with halos
We have highs
We have lows

We’re born with counterparts
We’re born with parallels
We have thoughts of black and white
Life is a fusion of good and bad

We don’t design this verve
We argue, we fight
Out there is a Big Love
You and me in this checkered life
