Change, Changi And Shangiliti Poem by Murtaza Micky Yusuf

Change, Changi And Shangiliti

Change, Changi and Shangiliti-
They are liars
Ah! Men are liars
The mouth of a liar sheds no blood
His tongue tastes so sweet as honey
Until he Changed it
Until he Changed our minds
He shortchanged the people's expectations
He suddenly becomes an Identified Flying Object(IFO)
But no more money to feed the needy
He Changed his promise so many times
Like a Chamelion would Change its colors
Then like a Leopard he never Changed its Spot.
Our cities in total Blackout
Water has dried up in our homes
Our roads are paralyzed by long queues
He rejoices too much because he killed a goliath
He thinks not about the jobless Army of youth
He thinks not about our girls
Is this Change, Changi or Shangiliti

Nigerians expectations for a political Change has suffered a set back, to the extent that even the die-hard believers and supporters of the Change are getting frustrated! Many of them are still ready to give Change a chance, but they are now asking a question- Is this the Change? * Changi means to be disappointed and Shangiliti, a Yoruba word, the language of the South-westerners, in Nigeria, means a Lifeless/statue image.
