Chances Poem by Calvin Berg

Chances

Many times the words put down
The words that I have said.
Many times, they are for her
Forgiven, but not instead.

The times I've hurt, the times I've died
The times I fell apart.
Amongst the pain, was still the thought
Of opening up my heart.

I'm not at fault, I'm not to blame
This love's a dangerous dance.
This, my love, not fair, but fine
Deserves a fiftieth chance?

I try to push, I try to shove
I try so hard to forget.
The pain I felt, of cold betrayal
The cards on which I bet.

The time is right, but always wrong
Of this, I can be sure.
To have her back, now that's the trick
For this, she is the cure.
