Celebrating Diwali In Sarawak Poem by Daya Nandan

It feels different celebrating Diwali away from home,
Being the only Indian left left here alone,
But i had to make that choice as my skills are in need,
I took the decision to perform a good deed,

So i stayed as i am the only doctor that can handle eye cases,
Because i am overjoyed when i see the happy look on their faces,
The happiness they have when they can see once again,
The joy in their thanks when i relieve their pain,

And somehow my effort caught the eye of the national news station,
For they wanted to make my story a national sensation,
After my grueling ward oncall, they interviewed me,
I slept for only 2 hours that day leaving only fatigue in me,

But i mustered what strength i had for it all,
Standing still and trying not to fall,
And the next day my staff and patients were watching the tv,
Waiting in suspense to watch national TV project an image of me,

Alas, in fair time i came on screen,
Like a macho hero from a movie scene,
i may not be with my family to celebrate the festival of lights,
But, my love for the people will bring their health to greater heights,
