Campfireku Poem by Amy Sutton

Campfireku

1.
We wove ouselves dreams
of love songs and passion plays
sewn into scansion

and lay together
on a bed written in verse
blanketed in words

2.
We both whispered tales
from firesides and desert plains
warm on our cold skin

and lay out against
the curve of the earth, the night
bright in our firelight

3.
Worlds grew, blooming out
warm from our hot fiction's fire
fanning fast the flames

and we melted words
in our new stoked furnace fires
and forged new legends
