C. Ballad 1: Reverend And Son

REVEREND AND SON

About a score years and four
A son was begotten to a reverend devout,
And despite his consorting with lofty offenders;
And countless constant entangles in hellish tenders,
He narrowly escaped the yawning gallows of death.

Though it first thawed intimacy between father and son
Later it bloomed and blossomed as the Almighty’s hammer downed
And with godly goals the son was adorned and gowned;
And as the aging frame of the revered clergy weakened with time,
The little lad inked each day a mellifluous rhyme.

Thus tightened the trammels of bond and father and son reconciled;
For the first time the two either to other smiled;
Blessings from a heart hitherto sealed were loosed;
Before the man of God murmured farewells and coughed his last!
