Born And Christened On The 1st. Poem by G. Akanji Olaniyi

Born And Christened On The 1st.

Rating: 5.0

She was born on January 1st
Waited for christening on October 1st
Pushing forward years of fifty-nine
Cultivating lands of yours and mine
Decades of years gone by
Like we stayed here saying bye-bye
Plenty of dreams put in our dedications
Think we might need more medications
See our motions in sharp spirals
May be we still stuck to the old telephone dials
Motherland! Great perceptions of your bulging pregnancy
Though alarmed with the pungent stagnancy
Your earth is fertile and rich
Perhaps our backs ache too much for the reach
Witnessed these great exodus
Go find the one name azadus
Pray for a deserved change
The ailments are causing damage
Our nation can be the best
She was created to be the greatest
God, The Almighty, we seek your grace
For attainment of our dreams in this space

Happy Independence Anniversary My Country, Nigeria! ! !
