Bonnie Prince Charlie Poem by Tom Billsborough

Bonnie Prince Charlie

Rating: 5.0

Blackbird songs ring through the trees
The merle is calling from the fen
Where you are beyond the seas
Will ye no come back again?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
One of my wife's and my favourite songs is 'will ye no come back again.' by Lady Caroline Oliphant. I thought I'd write a little extra verse in her honour using the same metre. Merle is the French for Blackbird, a reference to the fact that Prince Charlie had escaped to France after Culloden. His right hand man, Cameron of Lochiel, was one of my wife's ancestors, who escaped wounded with his Prince.

Thank you, Annette. It's one song that's slow enough for me to play on my electronic organ! My excuse is that I've very small hands compared to my height! Mr Purry just thinks I can't play!
