Bolt Poem by Ibn Ali

Bolt

My eyes bolt their restraints
In search of something wonderful and strange
Any beauty recognised is tame
I've willed her night and day
Day and night without reply
What is she that they aren't
Why can she, but they can't
Why do we miss the ones that leave
And resent the ones that stay with us throughout
Maybe the heart's grown fonder since
Or retrospect's been compromised
Love should never be expressed with words
It's heard and not too often felt
Light casts shadows and has no shadow of its own
And its absence is the mask
It's been a while since we were strangers
And longer still since we were friends
Water over voids can never pass
In trying to cross over she pulls me in
I'm a victim of my whims, without a bridge
The facade I show without, the criminal within
