Best Friend Poem by Megan Frame

Best Friend

Your best friend, you said.
That phrase filled me with dread.
You fly from girl to girl,
Caressing every curl.

Again, I go unseen.
and you carry out your scene.
I wonder, could you see,
How much this kills me.

You've said you love me,
But as a friend.
Is that all I can be
Until the end?

You'll not know,
How much I love you so.
You won't see,
That with you, I want to be.

I want you to hold me,
Caress me,
and scold me.

I want your arms around me,
Open your eyes
I want you to see.

But you'll look away,
and I'll say I'm okay.
Until perhaps one day,
You'll answer the prayers I pray.
