Because We Loved Him Too Much Poem by Marc Mannheimer

Because We Loved Him Too Much

My mother told us,
maybe Herman died
because
we loved him too much.

Constant handling
can damage a hamster,
as it can damage a child,

flooding the natural silence
which whispers rest and solitude
with noise
of sloppy affection.

How does one know peace?
How does one learn
who one is?
How does one
find the True Space?
