Be An Example Poem by H.M. Gautsch

Be An Example

I started from the bottom,
From a town known to be a bit sodom.
I've made my own stupid choices.
Ran away from home when I was eighteen,
Befriended those with a negative crowd,
I was feeling, 'Can't nobody hold me down! '
By hanging with gang wannabes.
Listening to my demon's voices,
Participating in stolen product,
And being a small town thug.

Surrounding myself with drugs and drunks,
Luckily, I quit while I was still ahead;
And walked away from a life that's dead end.
For discipline, I enlisted.
I've experienced my share of the Devil.
I've also witness a portion
of Operation Iraqi Freedom
Boots on ground during the trials of Saddam
I've earned my stripes the legal way
Representing the U.S. Army.

Avoid the cuffs,
by avoiding the cops.
Put down the guns,
before you get popped.
Be an example
For the kids watching
We need ascension.
Be a role model
Instead of thirsting
For attention.

Now the only sign I pose with
Is the peace sign with a smile.
Judge me, but I can guarantee
You wouldn't handle a full mile
In my shoes, I walk on a road less traveled
No pavement, all graveled
With many victories I claim with my battles
And if I gain haters for being me.
Well then I'm doing something right.
I'm going to continue to push through.

Bust the windows and doors to keep the movement.
I'll continue to break against the wind.
As you remain trapped in your closed mind.
You won't stop me from spreading my wings.
My flight continues to incline,
As my vision claims a new shrine.
For me to look up to for a new life.
I have this opportunity to be a leader.
Break my mold to reveal such a beautiful creature.
My feet are planted to remain as a keeper.

Avoid the cuffs,
by avoiding the cops.
Put down the guns,
before you get popped.
Be an example
For the kids watching
We need ascension.
Be a role model
Instead of thirsting
For attention.
