Balloons Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Balloons

She's found a way to the summit
There was a tussle and he let go of the string and you floated away over the parking lot
He selected you from the pack of ten because the bright pink color caught his attention

He hooked you up to the helium tank
On your side was printed the name of a local savings and loan
You were pink and promotional and you were tied down
Prevented from going where the wind would take you

I imagine the elements will tear you asunder
It's going to rain tonight and the wind has already kicked up
Until then you move without care or resistance in fleeting floating freedom
Can live if this destroys you, can't live if he keeps you tied down
