Ballad In The Mute Poem by Maura Herboldsheimer

Ballad In The Mute

Words.

Despising them so
Their absence
Their presence
Her peace of mind invaded
The reason
She always feels jaded.

One word.

A difference
Addition
A rousing rendition
An oxymoron to make
Or to break.

Two words.

An exclamation
Declaration
Profound or muttered
Every once in a while uttered
Utterly honest
Disguised invitations.

Three words.

Unexpected
Rejected
Entirely unheard of
But secretly beguiling
Behind the mask smiling
Romance and Decadence
A future in tatters.

Words.

Are startling
Disconcerting
Unabashedly hurting
A stab in the back
My solar plexus
Why is she crying?
Why did he try it?
Differ discovers
Secrets uncovered
Never my own.

Words.

Silence
Make connections
Rebuild faith
1st amendment prevention
Destroy your religion
Crocodile tears
Heal or be broken
By the words that are spoken.
