Bach's G Minor Fugue Poem by Tom Billsborough

Bach's G Minor Fugue

Rating: 5.0

The tone is dark, insistent.
A stream of water constantly
Encountering dams.
A image of foreboding.
Yet its six beat rhythms
Enter in my soul
And bring out images
Of bridges, waterfalls
That strange continuum of water
Which I love but oddly fear,
Seeking that still pool
Which Bach will not allow,
Wishing to express its energy.
One day I mean to write
A fugue in rhyme
Six minutes long, the time
To correspond with his Great Fugue.
Meanwhile I'll listen
To its flow and measure
Out my plan with care.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Bach's six beat rhythm corresponds to my own natural metre. Probably why I love this piece of music. It is full of foreboding, a bit alien to me, but the rhythm drives me along anyway.

Thanks Kumarmani. One day I'll get my head down and write a long poem with themes interlocking and repeating. Just need a subject worth doing.
