Awakening Poem by Reena Puri

Awakening

For many summers, the Earth had been barren, bereft of any coverings.
The relentless rays of the Sun, heartless in intensity, searched in vain for shadows.

As if, this was but not enough!
Searing winds swept across her bosom,
Stealing what could have been a prick of life.
Abandoned, desolate, hopeless!
Such was the state of my Earth.

Then one summer the Rain God let go of his ire.
With an abandoned fervor, atoned the sins inflicted on his lover.

The tumultuous meeting of the Earth and Rain
Spewed once again the seeds of life.
The Earth no longer desolate, barren, and hopeless!
A rainbow at the end of the dark clouds.
What more could my Earth ask for?
To be forever in the gentle gaze of her Rain God.
