Autumn Poem by mike monahan

Autumn

Rating: 5.0

one day I was strolling down an old country lane with my two dogs pulling freely on their reins my thoughts were of the gentle breeze that lifted and laid a blanket of leaves
in my mind I began to see shapes of Summer bouquets and Christmas wreaths

raising my gaze from the ground to the sky flocks of migrating birds came fleetingly by
still looking upwards I observed the naked trees with countless nests
lots of empty branches that the season had undressed

onwards I ventured into a nearby field all strewn with straw that the harvest did yield
on releasing my dogs from their reins they ran up and down the field and back again

soon the sun was sinking down the sky matched the colours of the leaves on the ground hitching up the dogs back down the lane we proceeded to roam seas of confetti remained with us on the long journey home...
