August Blues Poem by ER Bron Chiong, RSW

August Blues

What makes me remember August
Annually, it's the last month of summer
in the northern half of the world
and the rainy season in the other half
named after the first Roman emperor
poppy and gladiolus are the birth flowers
its birthstone is peridot that symbolize
strength, healing power and good fortune

The first seven days is the International Clown Week
and a day to celebrate for lovers of watermelon
on the 13th is the International Day for Left-handers
on the 20th is the World Honeybee Day
the other "Just for Fun" Days are
the Dogs Days and the Cat Nights
the 8th month of the Gregorian calendar
and the 5th out of 7th with 31 days long

That's what makes August quite unique
like the eleven other months people celebrate
birthdays, anniversaries and events
to commemorate the memorable dates
in the cycle of life with much significance
that all of us still have to reminisce--
a grand day with a smile in our faces
as we treasure the past good memories

For me, an ordinary human being
the month started with a reproach
of my mother tongue that God gave
my people and I to enjoy interacting
then came the two poems deactivation
with three words—unexpected error occurred
it was junked without traces of its existence
except the memories I had in my mind

Writing poem is my venue
to express my thoughts to people
my passion in creating simple words
to convey, communicate and interact
the views I held and commentaries
of what's happening around me--
to challenge the global perspective
for a much better world to live and enjoy!
