At Opera House Poem by Suchoon Mo

At Opera House

in the middle of the stage of a theater
in the middle of town

a large tenor sits and strains himself
upon a small white toilet seat

groaning and cursing
constipated

finally he lets out a howl of relief
and sings an aria of triumph

the multitude of applauding people stand up
shouting 'encore! '
